Not only can baking soda be used as a deodorant, facial scrub, teeth whitener and fluff up your eggs in the morning, but sodium bicarbonate is a basic household product which is cheap, non-toxic and serves many purposes around the home.

Shower curtains – sprinkle baking soda onto a clean, damp sponge or brush and scrub your vinyl shower curtain. Rinse clean and hang up to dry.

Drain cleaner and deodoriser – pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain and rinse with three cups of hot water.

Kitchen pans – when grease and grime strikes your roasting pans, casserole dishes and BBQ grills, remove it by sprinkling soda onto the pans, add hot water and detergent, and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Give it a scrub and rinse away.

Air freshener – add a few drops of essential oil to baking soda and place it in a bowl. Voilà, your own homemade
air freshener.

Bathroom – clean bathroom tiles, sinks and tubs by sprinkling baking soda onto a clean, damp sponge and scrub. To get extra cleaning power, add salt and liquid detergent to the baking soda until it forms a paste. Leave it to sit and scrub off as normal.

Keep odours at bay – leave an open box of baking soda in your fridge, waste bin or anywhere around your home where nasty smell clouds appear.

Dull floors – add half a cup of baking soda to a bucket of warm water. Mop and rinse.

Silver – silverware can be brought back to their original shine by combining baking soda with water using a clean cloth or sponge. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Laundry – renew your clothes by adding half a cup of baking soda to your wash cycle to remove smells and make your clothes cleaner and brighter.

Weed killer - kill any small weeds and prevent new ones from growing by sprinkling baking soda onto the cracks on your patio, driveway or walkway.
