Toy Storage Ideas To Stay Organised

Author: Jamie Quinn
The chaos that ensues when toys are scattered around the house can be a major source of stress and frustration for both children and parents. Sometimes, try as you might it just feels impossible to keep the hoards of toys contained.

We’ve compiled a few ideas to help you keep your space tidy, and keep your sanity.

The Need for Toy Organisation

Toy organisation is not just about keeping your home tidy; it's also about creating a conducive environment for your child's play and learning. A well-organised toy collection can make it easier for children to find their toys and engage in play, while also reducing the time spent on cleaning up.

Organised toys can also help in teaching children about responsibility and tidiness. When children learn to store their toys in designated places, they are learning important life skills that will benefit them in the future.

Toy Storage Ideas for Different Toy Types

Board Games and Puzzles:

When it comes to storing board games and puzzles, a dedicated box or shelf can be a great solution. The key is to keep them accessible and visible. Consider using clear containers or large clear pouches so your child can quickly see what the game is.

Action Figures and Dolls:

Storing action figures and dolls can be a bit more challenging due to their delicate nature. Try a hanging shoe organiser to keep dolls organised, separated and protected.

LEGO and Building Blocks:

LEGO and building blocks can be stored in clear containers or bins with lids. If you have a lot of LEGO pieces, consider using sorting trays. Sorting trays can be made from plastic or cardboard and can be labelled according to the colour or type of LEGO piece. This can make it easier for your child to find the pieces they need and can prevent the pieces from getting lost.

Stuffed Animals:

Stuffed animals can take up a lot of space. They are best stored in a bin or a box with a lid. If you have a large collection, consider using a storage ottoman or a toy chest. These pieces of furniture can be both functional and decorative. Alternatively, consider a wall-mounted hammock, this keeps the toys off the floor and looks cute in children’s bedrooms.

Books:

One of the most overlooked spaces in the home is the back of the door. This space is often underutilised, but it can serve as a great spot for storage, especially for children's books. Find a sturdy shelf system to display books and keep them in easy reach.

Storing and Protecting Outdoor Toys

The key to storing outdoor toys is to keep them dry and protected from the elements. Make sure the storage solution you choose is suitable for the type and size of the toys you have.

Toy Bins:

Toy bins with lids are a great way to store smaller outdoor toys like balls, toy cars, and action figures. They are easy to carry and can be stacked for better utilisation of space.

Hanging Organisers:

For toys like jump ropes, frisbees, or kites, hanging organisers can be a good solution. They keep the toys off the ground and within easy reach.

For smaller toys that can be hung, consider using a pegboard wall storage system. This can be a fun and creative way to display and store toys.

Outdoor Toy Boxes:

There are many outdoor toy boxes available in the market that are designed specifically for storing outdoor toys. They are weather-resistant and can withstand outdoor conditions.
